Knowing Her Identity

At church this morning a neighbor asked The Queen if she was, "fibbing." (I didn't actually catch what the question was referring to -- probably something about her nail polish which she was excitedly telling EVERYONE about).

The Queen misunderstood the question and replied, " I not Fibbing, I Ainsley! A-I-N-S-L-E-Y, that's Ainsley"

It's Still Winter

I'm really very tired of winter and counting the days until spring.  We haven't been up to much, but I do have a few pictures that the four of you who read this might enjoy!

After the second of our 2 major snowstorms, I braved the knee-deep snow (thigh-deep for my kiddos) and we went sledding at the park near our home.

What's a trip to the park without swings? The Queen loved the fact that it was easier to get into because the snow level was so high.
So much snow!

When stir-crazies really set in, we pull out the masking tape and make tracks for The Boy's Hot Wheels.

Like I said, not a whole lot going on around here, but sometimes that's nice too!

I Owe This Girl A Birthday

Things started off well enough with a birthday party Saturday morning.  We had a pj party and the girls (and The Boy) enjoyed muffins and chocolate milk while watching a Hello Kitty show.  We then made the rounds with nail polish and Hello Kitty tattoos.

Her birthday started with curlers and making her birthday cake.
The Primary Program was that day and she enjoyed getting all dolled up (I enjoyed getting her dolled up too).  She was the star of the Sunbeam's song as she was just about the only one singing.  Have we mentioned how much she loves to sing?
After church the combination of Diyah's stairs and the excitement of getting down them quickly resulted in a tumble.  She wasn't able to enjoy much of unwrapping presents or eating cake.
We did get a few smiles.

After it was clear she was not cheering up, we hustled to the Insta Care for some X-rays.  Turns out she buckled a bone in her arm (on her birthday, poor thing!).  The next day she chose a purple cast and here she is sporting it for her first day of Preschool.

Her first day of school went well.  She didn't even want me to walk her to the door!  We got to do her spotlight and she is VERY excited to go back on Thursday.  Such a trooper!

Trees

The Boy asked about trees this morning, wondering why we like to have them around. Between bites of his breakfast (literally, as he had to take a bite before we would give him each example) we told him how trees provide clean air, shade, and beauty. We then started talking about the different animals that live in trees, such as squirrels and birds. Wanting to contribute, The Queen excitedly added 'monkeys' to the list as she went up the stairs.

Neesha: Fruit also grows on trees.
The Boy: Like what?
Neesha: Apples and oranges.
Mark: And bananas.
The Boy: And peaches?
The Queen (hollering from upstairs): And popcorn!

Time for the popcorn blossoms!

She's Got Talent

Junebug's got a bit of a cold and was struggling to breathe through her nose. After listening for a while, The Queen excitedly remarked, "Mommy, she knows how to snore!"

They'll Hate This When They're Older

But I will love it forever!
We received the CD, "Popcorn Bopping" for Christmas. My kids love it.

The Boy and The Queen use their brooms for guitars most of the time, but they also function as pianos, horns and dance partners as well. Junebug usually gets into it and laughs at her silly siblings. Great for January/February stir-crazies.
Thanks, Dougalls!

Holy Golden Grahams, Batman!

It took two specially marked boxes of Golden Grahams to create this afternoon.
It's all about the simple things.

'Tis the Season

I found these jammies at Costco and just couldn't resist.
Happy Holidays!

Missed it by that much

The Queen wanted to play in the snow this morning, but first had to clean her bedroom. I admit to a strong father's bias, but it takes a truly exceptional three-year old to clean her room this well, by herself, and with no supervision.

Truly exceptional...

Give here another year and she'll learn to put a blanket on top. Maybe then she will get away with it.

Happy Saturday

This morning we woke to the first snow of the season. I turned on the Christmas music, made cinnamon rolls for breakfast and sent the kids outside.
Maybe winter isn't so bad to start out with.

This week's theological crisis

It's Friday night. Neesha is kneading pizza dough for dinner while I finish reviewing some contracts for work. The Boy and The Queen are upstairs playing in their bedrooms which they are supposed to be cleaning. There is a loud crash and The Queen begins to wail. Neesha and I pause for a moment to see if the sound will go away on its own. When it doesn't, I go up to check for blood.

In my best concerned-father voice, which I must say is pretty good,...

Me: What happened?
The Queen (running into my arms while wailing): Jesus bumped me on the head!

* after a long, faith-promoting pause*

Me: What was that?

She points to a picture of The Savior that typically sits on her dresser, now laying on the floor.

The Queen: Jesus bumped me on the head!
Me: Oh, good. No worries, then.

Three and Counting

The Queen turned 3 last week.
Her highlights were helping to make her cake
and eating it.
This is the first birthday cake that has actually been eaten by the birthday kid. The Boy has yet to try a birthday cake and this was the first time The Queen ate hers. I think presents AFTER cake helps.

Even at nap time.
She loves to help with jobs and nearly EVERY time she puts her shoes, sandals, etc. on, she gets them on the wrong feet.
We love you, honey! Happy Birthday!

It's Normal

The Queen came up to me this morning, quite distressed.

The Queen: "Mom, I have those on my hands!"
Me: "You have what on your hands?"
The Queen: (very weepy) "Those!" (indicating the lines on the palms of her hands)
Me: "Honey, those are normal."
The Queen: (still very weepy) "Mom, I have normal on my hands."

More Than Meets The Eye

The Boy went through a rather intense Transformers phase a while back. We were able to get a hold of the first season of the 80's cartoon from the library and both kids watched every single episode. Needless to say, the theme song was played quite often.

TRANSLATION: "Transformers, more than meets the eye. Autobots race to battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons. Transformers!"

Pickle Belly

I was washing the baby the other day when The Queen decided to join me. She said something about the baby's belly...

Me: You want to tickle her belly?
The Queen: No! She have a pickle in her belly!

The umbilical cord stump is still attached and The Queen thinks it looks like a pickle.

So Big

The Queen moved to her big girl bed a few weeks ago.
She's BARELY tall enough to ride The Boy's old tricycle, but she LOVES it!

Playtime

??????
I'm not sure what she was going for. I told her it was too cold for her "swimmy soup" (swimming suit) and she came out of her room with her tutu, The Boy's hard hat and goggles, and taking a Curious George DVD for a walk. At least she's happy.

If Dr. Seuess visited us today

She would color in a box and she would color with a fox.
She would color with her food and she would color in the nude.
